Starting today, mooring in the Sinis Peninsula - Mal di Ventre Island Marine Protected Area is even simpler and more ecological with bluemooring.org. The platform created within the MedSeaGrass project, financed by the MAVA foundation, coordinated by the MEDSEA Foundation, in collaboration with the Marine Protected Area of the Sinis Peninsula - Mal di Ventre Island and with the French team Blueseeds, is now available to all.
Boaters who want to stay one or more days in the Sinis Marine Protected Area can now easily register and pay online. The launch of the platform these days in Sardinia followed the sharing of the technology with the other marine protected areas of the Mediterranean that could adopt the tool very soon. The Marine Protected Area of the Sinis Peninsula - Mal di Ventre Island is in fact among the three pilot sites in Europe to adopt the online mooring registration system, together with the archipelago of Chausey in France and the MPA of Portofino.
BLUMOORING.ORG: HOW DOES IT WORK?
Using BlueMooring.org is very simple: boaters can indicate the desired parking dates and pay their fee in one of the various mooring places identified between the Island of Mal di Ventre, Seu, Torre Vecchia-La Caletta and Tharros. The user can choose whether to purchase a single day, a three-day package or proceed with a monthly or seasonal pass, with a 20 percent discount for residents. 98 buoys are available in the stretch of water of the marine reserve which guarantee a geo-localized mooring method, easy and fast, but above all safe for the Posidonia meadows, often damaged by the free mooring. The platform also provides access to all useful information on the services and activities available on site and nearby, on the conservation actions carried out in the Marine Protected Area and on the regulations in force.
“This tool, together with the other activities developed within the Medseagrass project, will contribute to raising awareness of the need to respect and protect habitats, in particular the primary one of Posidonia oceanica - explains Giorgio Massaro from the MEDSEA Foundation -. The development of the mooring management system in the MPA and the proceeds from it will allow the marine protected area to reinvest for the continuous conservation of seagrass beds. "
The platform is part of a wider project that is part of the Medseagrass activities and which includes: a mapping of the Posidonia oceanica and its state of health already carried out, the reforestation of some damaged stretches of the seagrass beds (in most cased because of the moorings), the moorings online management (with the bluemooring.org platform), and finally the reinvestment of part of the financial support in conservation and research activities.
FOR A MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS NAUTICAL TOURISM
The portal is available in three languages, Italian, English and French, designed not only for locals but in particular for tourists who choose Cabras as a stop on their itinerary and who will have the opportunity to take advantage of a prestigious landing place, even in proximity to the archaeological area of Tharros.
"The will of the Administration is to increase the range of services offered every year. In 2021 the absolute novelty was the presence of the floating pier, thanks to which even people with motor disabilities were able to access, in some cases for the first time, a boat - says the Mayor of Cabras Andrea Abis -. This year we have operated in the field of digital innovation and administrative simplification, making the mooring procedures smarter and more autonomous ".
“We are very satisfied with this initiative and to be in some way a reference also for other Mediterranean MPAs - says Massimo Marras, MPA Penisola del Sinis director -. For some years now, the Sinis Marine Area has embarked on a path towards simplification and innovation, trying to meet the demand of boaters and putting their suggestions into practice. Online payment was a lack that we solved already in 2021 but with this new platform we are making an important qualitative step. A better version of the platform will be also ready soon, before the start of the summer season. This initiative anticipates the line that the Ministry of Ecological Transition itself has drawn for MPAs within the PNRR, pushing towards an ever-greater digitalization of protected areas ".
