The wildfire alarm season in Sardinia has passed, but the time for prevention is year round. At the beginning of December, the MEDSEA Foundation participated in the workshop "Combating Fires and Resilience of the Territory in Sardinia," organized by the Regional Agency Forestas in collaboration with MEDSEA Foundation and D.R.E.Am-Italia, as part of the Horizon FIRE-RES and Res-Alliance projects.

The Horizon 2020 program, named REST-COAST, is dedicated to the large-scale restoration of coastal ecosystems through the connectivity of rivers to the sea. With over 40 international partners, including MEDSEA, the project has taken a leading role in evaluating and comparing governance practices at various pilot sites(9 in total, see pilot sites) in relation to the restoration activities planned at these sites.
The setup of "La Torre di Marceddì" (Marceddì Tower) in Terralba has received the prestigious "In/Architettura Sardegna 2023" award, promoted by Inarch National Institute of Architecture and ANCE, in collaboration with Archilovers. The project, completed in 2021, marked the return of one of the most significant historical monuments in the Oristanese lagoons and the Marceddì Lagoon to its former glory, reopening its doors to the public.
In recent weeks, the MEDSEA team had the opportunity to meet with middle school students from the municipality of Domus De Maria, located on the southern western coast of Sardinia. They were warmly welcomed by the school staff and the mayor, Maria Concetta Spada.
Over 60 deterrents, which last February were placed between 30-40 metres on sandy seabeds to protect the habitats of the marine protected area and to counteract the threat of illegal trawling fishing, were part of the SATURN project - Anti-trawling Systems for the protection and natural restoration of the marine protected area of the Sinis peninsula.
